Micheline has decided that the best way to come to terms with the fact that she has birth parents as well as adoptive parents is to declare that her Ayiti (Haitian) parents have died. We don’t know that, but for now that is what makes sense to her.
My kids just watched Princess Bride last week. Most of the lines went over Caleb’s head. Micheline, however, loved the movie and picked up some movie lines as evidenced by her conversation with her brother this morning.
She was playing with her brothers and told Caleb, “You killed my father. Prepare to die.” As I was quietly chuckling, Caleb said, “You not have father die. You father right there!” and pointed to Jeff. He was totally clueless that she was even quoting from Princess Bride. Micheline replied with rolled eyes, “You are so weird! He’s not my REAL father! My orphanage father is died! ” Obviously we have a bit more work to do on the concept of real parents, birth parents, and orphanage caretakers…not to mention speaking kindly and verb conjugations!
